Smoking Cessation Counselling

Smoking is one of the leading causes or morbidity and mortality in Slovenia as well as elsewhere in the world. According to the international classification of diseases, nicotine addiction and withdrawal symptoms classify as the code F-17 in the group of Mental and behavioural disorders due to the use of psychoactive substances. Consequently, this addiction classifies as a disease. Therefore, there’s nothing wrong with smokers asking for help when they want to quit smoking.

The purpose of the Slovenian coalition for tobacco control and public health is to provide smokers with effective and professional help with smoking cessation. We offer counselling and courses by experts from the field of smoking prevention and cessation. All staff members took classes at the CINDI (Countrywide Integrated Non-communicable Disease Intervention) School for Promoting Public Health and Preventing Chronic Non-communicable Diseases in primary care/family medicine at the Institute of Public Health of Republic of Slovenia.

All staff members were trained within the NGO’s Protect Our Health Project. The project is partially funded by the European Union through the European Social Fund. It is performed under the Operational Programme for Developing Human Resources for the period 2007 – 13 and its developmental priorities are “Encouraging the development of NGOs, civil and social dialogue”.
